  • Scratching Noises in Your Attic?
  • Unwanted Wildlife on Property?
  • Problem Bird or Bat Infestation?
  • Digging Lawn or Under House?
  • We Can Solve It!
Many of California's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving California's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Orange county animal services for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, spay & neuter programs, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, bite reports, deceased pets, lost pets, local animal complaints and to report neglected or abused animals. There is no free Yorba Linda animal control for wildlife issues.

Yorba Linda Wildlife Removal Tip: How to Get Rid of Opossums in the Attic

Opossums are trouble. While, for the most part, they are not going to do you harm, you do not want them in your attic. They can cause damage and they could potentially hurt you or someone else in your home. You want them out of your attic immediately, but there is no saying how long that will take if you do not act right now. Getting rid of an opossum in your attic is a lot easier than you might imagine. Regardless of your experience with removing pests from the home, this is something that you can manage and do successfully.

Find Their Entry

The first step in any removal is to figure out how they got into your property. By finding their entry, you can start to formulate a plan. There is a way to use this to your advantage to keep them out, of course, using a special type of trap. The main reason to find this entry, though, is to make sure that nothing can ever use it again. Once you close up that entry to unwanted guests, you can reduce the risk of them reappearing. If you fail to close it up, you might be in this same situation not that far into the future.

Types of Traps

There are two main types of traps for opossums: Exclusion and live. Exclusion traps are the traps mentioned above. When you find the entry for the opossum, you can put up an exclusion trap at that hole. If you remove any other points of exit, the opossum will have to go through that exit, and that trap, to leave. Once they leave, they cannot go back in because of the design of the trap. Unless they have unlimited food supply up there, this is bound to work.

The other type of trap is a live trap. Live traps use bait to lure the opossum inside, closing once they trigger the switch. The opossum can no longer leave the trap, allowing you to pick it up and release it somewhere else.

Whatever type of trap you use, do check the attic for babies and anything else afterwards. Make sure that the opossum has no reason to return to your property.

You can remove opossums by hand, as well, but that is a high risk method. Another option is to call a professional and have them handle it. No matter your choice, keep yourself safe and keep your property secure.
