Many of Colorado's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Colorado's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocaton services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Douglas county animal services for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, spay & neuter programs, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, bite reports, deceased pets, lost pets, local animal complaints and to report neglected or abused animals. There is no free Parker animal control for wildlife issues.

Parker Wildlife Removal Tip:

Hit or miss: taking a look at the effectiveness of mothballs and ammonia

Of all the ideas that have been conceived of for squirrel removal, none is as popular as exposing the rodents to unpleasant smells in the hope that this will drive them away for good. However, you will soon find out, that is but a hopeless fantasy.

Mothballs don't work as well as you think

One of the most common repellents for squirrels, mothballs are composed of a chemical compound called naphthalene, which has a characteristically pungent odor. It seems that the common belief is that this horrendous smell will repel squirrels, but this couldn't be true, and there are two main reasons for this.

Firstly, the amount of naphthalene contained within a single mothball is way too small to affect the squirrel. It might work against insects, but it does not have a prayer against anything larger. Secondly, squirrels are highly territorial creatures who strive to maintain control of an area they have just inhabited. Bad smells will certainly not convince them to leave.

Ammonia fail

Ammonia is a compound commonly found in chemistry labs and fertilizers. Once again, the reason it is used as a repellent is that it gives off a bad smell. The mothball discussion applies here too, with the added issue of having to apply ammonia repeatedly because its vapors get used up quickly.

Think about it; not only does the bad smell fail to repel the pestiferous rodents, but it also has to be applied frequently. Hardly a sustainable solution.

Better alternatives

As a good rule of thumb, repellents against any form of wildlife almost always fail to be effective. Therefore it is easier and far more pragmatic to take preventive measures against squirrel invasion. This, of course, involves keeping your house clean and free of food lying around or garbage. Any holes in the attic or anywhere in the house should be patched or sealed up immediately.

Of course, you might have to deal with a squirrel itself sooner or later, and in that case, it is wiser to invest in smart traps. You could use bait to lure it into a cage, for instance, and close it instantly. You could try to catch one with your bare hands, place it in a sack or pillowcase, and then proceed to relocate it. Indeed, there are a variety of humane options that you can choose to liberate yourself from the squirrels.

Contact professionalsIf you don't trust yourself to take care of the issue, you can always call squirrel professionals who will be happy to use their expertise and knowledge to guide you and assist you in removing the squirrel effectively.
