Many of Connecticut's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Connecticut's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocation services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Middlesex county animal services for assistance. Durham Wildlife Removal Tip: Skunk burrow identification - how to spot a skunk hole
Many animals dig holes on the ground for them to be able to use as a den where they live. This includes such things as chipmunks, gophers, and groundhogs, some of which can build impressive tunneling systems that enable them to move easily from one place to another.

While not all animals dig to create homes, there are some that will create holes as a means for looking for food. The skunk happens to be one of those kinds of animals, which will dig holes in an attempt to look for insects and grubs that may be underneath the surface of your grass or other foliage.

Why this is important for you to know is because the holes that a skunk will dig are an indicator of you having an animal like this on your property. While you may not want a raccoon or groundhog around, you clearly don't want to skunk near your home, and this is why it pays to have an understanding of what to look for in skunk hole digging activity. So, how do you know what to look for?

First of all, some skunks will dig burrows into the ground to use as a den live. The space where a skunk is living need have an entryway of no more than a couple of inches in diameter for the animal to easily get out of. The area inside the ground is much larger, but a skunk only needs a couple of inches to push its way through and out into the open.

While the size of this whole is similar to that of other creatures, including the groundhog, what it tells you is that there is a good possibility that you may have a skunk on or near your property, and you need to address this accordingly. If you find a hole in this diameter it just makes good sense to think you may have a skunk if there were other indicators.

One of those other indicators is the way that skunks dig for food. These are not animals that just to get one spot and then move on a few feet away. They are systematic in the way that they dig for insects and grubs in your lawn.

What this will look like is that you will see one area where the animal digs, and then it will just continue moving its way across an area looking for food. It's almost like watching an area the raked by the skunk as it is looking for food.

To be honest, this kind of systematic hole digging will be quite visible to you. You will see a large section of unearthed ground as this skunk has dug its way across an area looking for food. When you see this, you know for sure that you have a skunk that is coming onto your land looking for food. At this point, you do need to take action because this animal can pose a serious threat to you and your family.
