Many of Connecticut's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Connecticut's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocaton services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Windham county animal services for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, spay & neuter programs, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, bite reports, deceased pets, lost pets, local animal complaints and to report neglected or abused animals. Killingly Wildlife Removal Tip:

Why do skunks spray?

We've seen them in children's cartoons and movies, and we have laughed at the unlucky ones that have been present when they perform their famous trick. However, we would most definitely not enjoy being in a situation where skunk spray is fiercely spritzed around us.

Skunk spray is well known for its terrible smell that will make you want to tear your clothes apart and make your eyes water. The reason why skunk spray has such as prominent scent, is because of the concentration of sulfur and hydrogen that form a chemical compound called thiol. The spray is produced thanks to their dishonorable anal scent glands. In fact, this same substance is found in some of the most strongly smelling things like onions and garlic. Skunk sprays have also been classed as flammable, so if the right conditions present themselves, skunks could start flames in the woods.

Skunks will spray for many reasons. One way a spray is used is as a self-defense mechanism against predators such as wolves, coyotes and even bears. Since humans are also a predator, skunks also tend to spray us. Even though skunks do not spray one another, during mating season male skunks can indeed use this technique to compete with each other for female attention. The spray is able to cause temporary blindness and irritation to anyone the skunk thinks is a threat, in order to have enough time to escape and run away. If there is enough wind, the smell can be perceived by the human nose since almost 4 miles away. Skunk sprays can reach impressive distances; they can effectively reach a target from 10 feet away.

Besides spraying each other, skunks will hiss, rise their tails, stamp their feet and stand in intimidating postures to defend themselves against possible predators and. To protect their young, female skunks will use their odorous sprays to lay off any chance of danger.

The combination of chemicals in this spray is very smart indeed. When in contact with water, something that would be commonly used to wash off the smell, it will actually work backwards and make the smell even more powerful. On the other hand, there are other methods that can help get rid of the smell. For example, mixing hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and liquid detergent, and use the blend as you would a regular soap or shampoo.

However, skunks only use this mechanism as a last resort, since they can only use it about 5 to 6 times before they run out of substance. Then, they would need an average of 10 days to produce more stock.

Although skunks have been domesticated in certain states in the US or some places for that matter, it is common and unfortunate that owners often surgically remove their scent glands. However, at least in the UK, the Animal Welfare Act of 2006 has been successful in making it strictly illegal to do these procedures.
