Many of Connecticut's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Connecticut's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocation services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Hartford county animal services for assistance. Newington Wildlife Removal Tip: How to make a skunk-proof fence or barrier
A skunk is a kind of animal that you absolutely have to do everything that you can to keep off of your property. The spray that they release from their anal glands is absolutely horrific, and will leave you crying and smelling like something beyond words. It's something you can't take a risk with.

However, these animals are also the carriers of a number of diseases that pose a risk to you and your family. Coupled with their defense mechanism, it makes absolute sense for you to do all that you can keep these animals off your property.

You could do what most people do to protect their land, like putting up a fence or other kind of barrier, but a squirrel requires a little extra care when you are building these structures. This may make you wonder how to make a skunk proof fence or barrier?

There are two things that work to your disadvantage. First of all, skunks have an outstanding ability to be able to leap and climb, much like a cat. Secondly, they are able to dig, which means that you need to take some extra precautions to make your property safe from a skunk inning onto it.

When building a fence, you need to ensure that it is buried in least 18 inches below the ground. Dig a large trench around the entire property where you are intending to build your fence. Once you are done inserting the fence into the trench area, make sure that you fill in the area around the fence with dirt mixed with jagged rocks. This will make it even more difficult for the skunk to start digging around your property, making it impossible for it to get in.

In fact, to really act as a deterrent, some actually fill in the area around the fence with cement. This not only ensures that the fence will remain secure in its location, but it absolutely denies the skunk the ability to be able to dig its way underneath and onto your property.

In terms of height of your fence, you need to go at least 5 feet. This should be enough height to make it so that the animal is unable to climb the fence and get over onto your property. It also ensures that you are likely not violating some city ordinance, as some places in the country only allow a certain height defenses in neighborhoods.

You also want to make sure that all fence boards are tightly positioned next to each other. A skunk is able to morph itself so that it can fit through a space that is no more than 1.5 inches in diameter. Your fence will be completely useless if there is some gap that is at least this big. This is why it is important to make sure that you have built the fence so that there are no gaps like this, thus ensuring that the skunk will not have a means to get onto your property.
