Many of Connecticut's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Connecticut's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocaton services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local New Haven county animal services for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, spay & neuter programs, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, bite reports, deceased pets, lost pets, local animal complaints and to report neglected or abused animals. There is no free Oxford animal control for wildlife issues.

Oxford Wildlife Removal Tip:

How to prevent raccoons from getting into bird feeders

Having a nocturnal forager can be a real bother. Raccoons are year round and incredibly annoying. They are destructive; they will scatter your garbage, raid your homes, bird feeders, and anything else they can gather food from.

Their destruction peaks during late spring. That is because the baby raccoons grow daily, and need more milk. To produce this amount of milk, the mama raccoon needs to eat a lot of food. Bird feeders serve as a reliable food source.

Disadvantages of raccoons raiding your bird feeder

Even though a mama raccoon feeding her babies doesn't sound so terrible, still, one day her babies are going to grow up and ravage your bird feeder with their mama. That doesn't sound so good.

A lot of bird seed is wasted in the process, and the feeders face a lot of damage too. Cleaning up will also be a hassle. It is going to take a large amount of time and money into replenishing what the raccoons have taken and repairing what they have broken. But there are ways you can avoid this situation.

Save your feeder

Use these methods and combine a few to keep raccoons out.

1) Baffle

A baffle is typically a steel cylinder that fits over the pole thus preventing raccoons from climbing their way up to the top.

It is the most effective method to prevent raccoons from ravaging your bird feeders. And remember, a squirrel baffle won't do the trick because they aren't wide enough. Use a raccoon baffle, they are about two feet tall and their diameter is 10 inches.

If your pole is close to a tree or a branch of a tree, or even a rooftop, then even baffles won't work. You can purchase a baffle from a store, or even make one at home.

2) Bring bird feeders in at night

Even though it is a little extra work, but if you bring them inside at sunset, chances of raccoons raiding your birdfeeder decrease significantly.

Raccoons are nocturnal animals but birds are not. By using this method, you can feed the birds during the day, but not raccoons by night-time.

3) Clean up after the birds

If a raccoon finds bird seeds scattered on the ground, it will be curious and look for more. So buy a feeder that catches the fallen seed.

What NOT to do

Don't grease the poles. It may keep many pests off of the bird feeder, but the birds may get petroleum jelly and grease on their feathers, and it will be harmful to them. This grease can't be removed easily, and thus birds will become more vulnerable to predators.

Don't shoot the raccoon. Shooting a gun in your yard is risky as it is, but at the same time, raccoons are carriers of rabies virus. If the blood of a rabid raccoon comes in contact with skin, eyes or mouth, you could encounter the disease.
