Many of Connecticut's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Connecticut's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocaton services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local New Haven county animal services for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, spay & neuter programs, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, bite reports, deceased pets, lost pets, local animal complaints and to report neglected or abused animals. There is no free Seymour animal control for wildlife issues.

Seymour Wildlife Removal Tip:

How can I prevent raccoons from getting into my garbage?

Suffice to say, finding your garbage cans toppled every single morning isn't something to look forward to. You know who the culprit is; you've already spotted the raccoon around your neighborhood greedily staring at your garbage can about three times now.

You can't be expected to lie in wait for the raccoon when it comes around to hunt in your garbage since it only strikes in the middle of the night when you'd rather be curled up in your bed. Well, what CAN you do instead?

Here are some suggestions, ranked in order of least effective to most effective.

Strobing lights and sounds

Though its effectiveness is fairly debatable, some people claim using strobing lights on your garbage cans can keep raccoons away since they don't like sudden flashes of light. A similar tactic is to use sound as a repellent, the most effective way of being using a radio tuned into a rock station to keep the raccoons away. Both methods, however, work on the assumption that the raccoon won't get accustomed to them, something which has been seen to happen more often than not.

A little ammonia, perhaps?

Another method you could try is spraying the garbage cans and the area around it to keep raccoons (as well as stray dogs, apparently) away from digging into your trash. This method does work to some extent since the raccoons don't like the smell of ammonia which is also (somewhat) poisonous for them, but it requires you to regularly respray the ammonia every couple of days. And if the raccoons decide to put up with the smell in favor of digging in your trash, then the whole process becomes futile.

However, your best approach to stop raccoons from accessing your trash is to deny them access in the first place. There are two ways to do this, either by securing the lid on your trash cans or by moving the cans to a more "secure" location, i.e., inside your house.

Securing the trashcans

The objective here is to completely seal the lid of the trashcan, or rather just close it tightly enough so that no raccoon would be able to open it. You can use bungee cords for this purpose, or even some plain old rope, to rope the lid down. It would also be advisable to tie the can to a post or wall so that the raccoon can't knock it over.

Moving you're the cans inside your house

If your shed or garage can be locked up at night to allow no raccoons to enter, moving your bins inside would work like a charm. Though don't bring them inside your house if your shed and garage aren't suitable; it's downright unsanitary, and you know it.
