Many of Connecticut's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Connecticut's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocation services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Hartford county animal services for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, spay & neuter programs, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, bite reports, deceased pets, lost pets, local animal complaints and to report neglected or abused animals. There is no free West Hartford animal control for wildlife issues.

West Hartford Wildlife Removal Tip:

How do snakes sleep?

It doesn't matter whether they live on the water or on land, or they are large or small, all animals certainly do sleep. While some are known to snore like humans others can sleep without making the slightest of noise.

Most animals sleep by closing their eyelids but for snakes, they do not have eyelids. Without eyelids, it is impossible for snakes to blink or close their eyes. So the question then might be how do snakes sleep with their eyes open?

Since their eyes are always wide open, it is impossible to tell when a snake is asleep or not. But snakes do fall asleep. Snakes are able to sleep with the help of thin clear membranes that covers their corneas. These membranes are known as spectacles. The brain of a snake is responsible for regulating how it sleeps. Since it is difficult to tell when a snake is asleep or not by looking at its eyes, examining the body of the snake is the only way to tell if it is asleep or not.

A snake will most likely remain still if it is asleep, but it could also just be relaxing. It is difficult to tell for how long snakes sleep or whether or not they do dream. But the only thing that is certain is that a snake never closes its eyes. Some snakes are nocturnal while others are not; while most of them are both active during the day and night some only move about at a certain time of the day depending on the weather condition.

Snakes can remain still in a particular spot for a long time which can be for more than a day. Usually, when they are in this position, they are hunting for prey and won't spare any animal that passes by, especially for venomous snakes. A snake isn't sensitive to light or noise so turning up the music or flashing a torch across its eyes won't alert it to your presence. Snakes use their tongues in detecting objects in their environment.

Sleeping patterns differ from snake to snake. Some snakes sleep on trees while other stay buried under the ground in burrows. Snakes can also sleep in caves, under rocks, in bushes and virtually anywhere it chooses to call home. If you find a motionless snake in the wind, don't be in a haste to grab it from the ground as it could just very well be alive. There are techniques used in picking up a snake from the ground. The technique employed depends largely on the type of snake. Large snakes like pythons and anacondas require more than one person to handle while snakes like cobra, mamba, and viper can be picked up by one person by requires a lot of experience handling venomous snakes.

A lot is not known about the sleeping patterns of a snake, the reason might be because of the fact that they do not have a perfectly defined sight. It is much easier to tell when an animal is sleeping when it is capable of closing and opening its eyes.
