Rock Island Wildlife Removal Tip: HOW TO MAKE A HOMEMADE RAT POISON

There are many toxic products available in the market to get rid of rats but they are toxic and pose a risk to humans and pets too! Hence, if you are looking for some non-toxic yet effective formulas that can serve as rat poison then we are here to help you. But make sure you are keeping these poisonous substances in open area as if rats die in your home or building then it will spread a pungent smell making it difficult for you to breathe! Also, keep them away from your pets and check the rules of your state regarding killing of rats.

1. Cornmeal, milk and Plaster of Paris: Take around 100 grams of dry Plaster of Paris and cornmeal in a bowl and use milk to dough them together, you can also put bit of sugar in it. Make sure your dough is even without any clumps. Once the dough is ready, make balls out of this dough and place it at the corners where you have spotted rats. Rats will come during the night and as they will chew (make sure they are soft) they will die gradually. Wake up next morning and see if the balls are chewed, if yes then you are good and if not, then you have to prepare another batch as they might have been hardened until now.
2. Ammonia in liquid form mixed with detergent: Ammonia which helps in removing grime and dirt from your kitchen and bathroom can also help in removing rats from your home. Ammonia actually creates dizziness among rats and hence you can put some cotton balls old rags soaked in it around the area infested by rats. The odour of the ammonia is unpleasing for the rats and will make them run away from your house. Ammonia evaporates and thus you can actually keep liquid ammonia in small containers, mix some detergent along to intensify the effect.
3. Flour, Sugar & baking Soda: Keeping same quantities of flour and baking soda, mix them together and add 1.5 times sugar to it. Keep these mixtures in a shallow bowl inside the rat holes or other hiding locations so that it is easier for rats to reach and feed upon it. Baking soda shakes up the digestive system of the rats as it produces carbon dioxide which eventually leads to internal blockage and choking leading to deaths of rats.
4. Plaster of Paris & Cocoa Powder: You can make a mixture out of dry plaster of Paris and cocoa powder. Plaster of Paris can actually choke out the lungs of rats and they will squirm for air and water. All you have to do is to prepare a mixture of these two items by adding them in equal quantities. Make sure the mixture is dry and then make small heaps of it at places where occurrence of rats is frequent. Chocolate will attract rats but plaster of Paris will do the job of killing. You can also use instant potatoes instead of cocoa powder.
