Many of Maryland's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Maryland's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocation services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Howard county animal services for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, spay & neuter programs, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, bite reports, deceased pets, lost pets, local animal complaints and to report neglected or abused animals. Elkridge Wildlife Removal Tip: Humane Opossum Removal
If you have a nuisance opossum problem, there are humane ways to remove them and keep them away from your house for good.Opossums are not talked about as much as rabbits, chipmunks and other related animals. Opossums have small black eyes and a long pink nose and a long hairless tail.People do tend to think opossums are related to rats because of their features, but they are not.

Opossums have a fondness for hanging upside down like a bat but again is certainly no relation.

The opossums are North America's only marsupial because of this they are more related to a kangaroo if you like. Opossums are not very attractive some will say, and they have a negative bad boy image and tend to open its mouth and let out a huge hissing sound when they feel threatened or stressed.

Opossums aren't exactly bad to have around your home. They eat bugs and creepy crawlers and eat pests in your garden like snails and cockroaches we could do without.

While they can be a benefit around your home for pests, they can become a pest themselves eating fruit from trees and the fact they like to burrow in garages and under porches.

One of the best ways to prevent opossums from moving in is to block any holes or areas that look cozy and appealing to an opossum. If you find a hole its best to cover the hole with some loose leaves and dirt. If there is an opossum inside, they will dig and escape. If there has been no disruption of the dirt and leaves fill in the hole permanently to prevent an opossum moving in.Don't worry about babies being in the nest the opossum takes her babies with her.

Burying a mesh around your decking area and put mesh on any opening areas will deter opossums as they cannot dig under the barrier.

Trapping an Opossum
If you have an opossum in your garage or around your home somewhere, don't be alarmed they are non-aggressive and are mostly harmless. If you find one inside, then close all doors to avoid the opossum getting in anywhere else. The only door you want open is the one that leads outside. Sweet food or cat food works well for making a food trail that leads outside. If you are happy to leave the door open and wait for the animal to take itself out, then no traps will be required.

Another way is to place a garbage can that is empty in the room and build a staircase for the opossum leading into the bin. Fruit or cat food can be put in the bin to lure the opossum in. Once inside the animal cannot get back out. You can then place the lid on the bin and release the animal away from your home.

Remove all food sources from outside like pet food.If there are no available food opossums will not return. Using deterrents will ensure your home is opossum free and will avoid needing to catch the animals.
