Many of Maine's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Maine's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocation services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local York county animal services for assistance. Wells Wildlife Removal Tip: Can Crows Be Used To Clean Litter Outside?
Cigarette butts thrown on the ground is becoming a huge problem all over the world. Can we possibly train crows to pick up rubbish for us? There have been so many options out there we have tried to at least lower the number of butts and rubbish thrown on the ground from musical smoke bins, fines, marketing campaigns to even ballot bins place a butt in and get a vote for a favorite tv show or football player.None of these worked and seemed to just be a huge waste of money and time. These butts get eaten by wildlife who cannot digest them causing death, and they end up in the ocean polluting our beautiful waters.

A Dutch beginner came up with the idea to train crows to pick up the litter for us. This could work. There was the idea of a Roomba vacuum to do it but there would be too much involved, and the vacuum wouldn't be able to pick up items from hard places. After research was conducted on training birds, it became the fact that the crows are actually very intelligent.Crows are able to create tools to reach food or carry things, and they were able to solve problems.

There was a vending machine trial where you put money in the machine, and it will spit out nuts. After some training, the crows were able to learn how to use this machine. It was only basic training needed for this.He set up the machine to dispense coins first, so the crows could get used to the sound. In the final stage the crows were left to try and work out that when the coins went into the hole they would get a nut and sure enough after some time they figured it out. They put a coin in and get a peanut then the coins would just sit in the bottom until it was emptied.

A comparable idea was thought of which was called the crowbar. The basic idea was a bird drops the cigarette into a tube, the camera will verify it is a butt and then dispense a small bit of food for the crow. It is predictable the crows shall learn fast. In Japan crows taught each other to crack open nuts with the use of passing cars, so they expect the crows will also teach each other how the machine works.

Before it moves into the process further, checks will be done to see if there are in fact any risks involved to the birds and whether carrying the butts in their mouth will cause any problems to the birds themselves.

If this works, then this could be a way for humans and crows to work together. There are however crow experts who believe picking up butts and rubbish is the human's job and why should we be making the crows do this.He believes it is immoral to make an animal do the dirty work for us.

We do also pose the risk of people still littering due to thinking 'who cares the birds will pick it up' and this is not the approach to have towards rubbish. It is still a learning curve, but could we soon be further advanced than just the questioning can crows be used to clean litter outside? We just might be.
