Many of Ohio's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found
that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably,
these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire
hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Ohio's
wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.
We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

Do Snakes Drink Water?
If you want to know if snakes drink water, the answer is yes, they do. However, snakes have a different way of drinking water. Other animals can lap on the water through their wide tongues. Others like camels in the deserts store water in their humps to keep their bodies cool. Snakes are quite different. They can get thirsty and need water to survive. However, they have their own unique way of doing it.
A snake's way of drinking water is to open its mouth and just absorb the liquid like a sponge. A snake's tongue is not wide enough for it to lap up the water. Snakes' mouths do not open wide enough when their tongues are flicking out. Their tongues just act as a sensory organ that they can use to gauge their environment. They have the ability to sense if danger or a predator is near them through flicking their tongues.
Many people previously thought that snakes suck in water inside their mouths by alternating negative and positive pressure in their jaws. This is called the buccal pump model in which their oral cavities were considered to have a built-in straw inside. Since snakes expand their jaws when drinking, it was thought that they are able to draw the water through their mouths by sealing it. Then, they try to push the water side by side until it reaches their bodies by alternating between negative and positive pressures in their jaws. This is not the case as further studies have found out.
A Lehigh University in Pennsylvania did a study about how snakes drink water. One of their biologists, David Cundall was able to discover that the sealing of a snake's mouth when drinking water is purely incidental. The buccal pump is absent in other snake species but they are still able to drink water. The snakes' oropharyngeal region in its mouth has a sponge-like quality that absorbs water. This can be found in the Journal of Experimental Zoology where it negates the assumptions that snakes drink by sealing off their mouths.
Other snake species can move water through the sponge-like tissues in their mouth. The Eastern hognose snakes, diamond-backed water snake, the cottonmouth, and the gray rat snake have sponge-like tissues in their lower jaws. The soft tubes that evolve as snakes consume more food help them to force the water in their guts. Snakes can also gather moisture and water through their prey. However, they still prefer water if it is available since most of them is aquatic. Snakes can't also tip their mouths like humans do when drinking.
Snake species like anacondas and moccasins get water from their aquatic prey. They are also excellent swimmers and can slither underwater for a few hours. The green anaconda can literally live underneath the water with no problems about being thirsty. Some pythons that live in deserts can go on without water for a few months but can get it from their prey whenever they want.
