Many of Ohio's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found
that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably,
these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire
hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Ohio's
wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.
We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:
We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Jefferson county animal services for assistance. How do snakes produce venoms?
Not all snakes are venomous, while there are breeds of snakes like the python and bush snakes that don't have fangs or venoms; snakes like the viper and black mamba have poisonous glands that produce venoms.
Snake produces venoms through the help of an organ that produces its saliva. The purpose of saliva is to help in digesting food, and for a snake, they have toxic enzymes in their saliva that is not only important in digesting food but also helps them in killing their prey.
The toxins present in the venoms of a snake are nothing short of a type of protein. The zootoxins are developed to attack the nervous system of their prey. They are salivary glands with large alveoli that are located in the glands of the snake. The venoms when produced are stored in the ducts close to the bottom of the snake's fangs. When a venomous snake bites its victim, it injects it with venom through its fangs which it uses in sending the venom into the body of its victim. Some snakes like the cobra are able to spit their venoms through a large distance.
The venom of a snake contains more than fifteen different compounds which are majorly proteins and polypeptides. The variety of compounds that make up the venom of a poisonous snake are all responsible for paralysis, hemorrhage, and also in shutting down the nervous system of its victims. In addition, the venom in the saliva of snakes helps it in the digestion of food. The venom of a snake also contains proteins that help the snake in performing several functions such as transmission of muscle and nerve impulse, regulation of blood pressure and coagulation of blood.
Once the venom gets into the bloodstream of its victim, it targets the nervous system and cripples all body function. If the victim is left uncared for in the case of humans, the victim slowly bleeds internally and blood starts to come out of opening like the mouth, eyes, ear, and anus. This result in the death of the victim.
Venomous snakes can be found mostly in the wild, but they have been occasionally sighted in areas in close proximity to humans. Black mambas have been spotted in parks and even in gardens behind the house in different parts of the world. When you come in contact with a venomous snake, it is advisable that you get away from it as quickly as possible while you seek the help of a trained snake handler to get the snake out of your immediate environment to a more suitable environment away from human settlement.
It doesn't matter if a snake sends it venom through its fangs or spits it, coming in contact with the venom of a snake can be life-threatening. The fact that snakes have venoms is what causes the whole scare around snakes. While non-venomous snakes like pythons are safe to keep as pets, keeping venomous snakes as pets isn't advisable as even with the antivenin close by, the damage they can do to members of the family or pet is numerous.
