  • Scratching Noises in Your Attic?
  • Unwanted Wildlife on Property?
  • Problem Bird or Bat Infestation?
  • Digging Lawn or Under House?
  • We Can Solve It!
Many of South Carolina's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving South Carolina's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Barnwell county animal services for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, spay & neuter programs, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, bite reports, deceased pets, lost pets, local animal complaints and to report neglected or abused animals. There is no free Barnwell animal control for wildlife issues.

Barnwell Wildlife Removal Tip: How Well Can Squirrels Climb And Jump?

If you've noticed a squirrel closely then you would have seen the different acrobatics that they can perform through the climbing and jumping that they do. There is no doubt in the fact that squirrels are amazing climbers and good jumpers too. They can climb trees and jump from one place to another quickly and easily. It is one of the best talents that they possess apart from chewing and gnawing into things. Tree squirrels can jump from one branch to another without worrying about falling down.

Tree squirrels are known to be running so fast that they have been clocked at 20 miles an hour. For such a small animal to reach a place so quickly is almost incredible. Their ability to jump from one branch to another with ease makes it easy for them to reach our attics through extended tree branches. Their muscles are built for jumping high and far. They are very agile creatures and can easily move from one place to another before you knew they were gone.

They swivel their hind feet backwards and jump to cover a longer distance. This is how they attain the ability to jump longer distances. This is one of the reasons why it is so difficult to keep them away from homes and bird feeders. While different species have different abilities when it comes to jumping, the Eastern Gray Squirrel which is the most common type of squirrel in the United States is known to be able to jump around four feet high and can cover a distance of nine feet horizontally.

It may even have a running start depending on its age. The average squirrel can run at 12 miles an hour at top speed. Their ability to jump and climb can also be figured by the way in heights in which they build their nests. In their natural environment, squirrels choose to build their nests at about a height of 20 feet from the ground. They reach this height by climbing up the trees. They are very good climbers and this is exactly why they usually prefer your attic for nesting.

If you are trying to take measures to keep squirrels away from your house then make sure that you trim branches of the trees that lead to your roof. Keep their jumping abilities in mind and make sure that the branches are cut down far enough that the squirrels will not be able to jump from the tree to the house. Their jumping and climbing capabilities sometimes look really good when performed in their natural environment and is often the reason why they are chosen by photographers as subjects but bring them to your home and you may not be very happy about their jumping and climbing capabilities any longer.
