Sherman Wildlife Removal Tip: Where do skunks live? Do more skunks live in urban areas, or wild areas?

The skunks are native of North America and they can be visibly seen in the Northern part of Mexico and throughout the US. There are other species of skunks that were seen in some parts of Canada and in South and Central America. Most of them have hog nose. The stink badgers on the other hand are close to the hog nosed skunks of the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia. They have stripped feature and they can be found in Florida, but not in Keys.

In terms of their natural habitat, the skunks have shown a little discrimination in terms of looking for a hub where they can live and rest both in the rural and in the suburbs, they can live anywhere as long as there is a food source and there is water as well. They even travel 2 miles just to look for food. They do not go far beyond than 2 miles from their nests, they just stay in range between one half and one and a half miles from their hubs. These animals also mandate to have enough supply of food and shelter. They can easily adjust to their habitat like if they are in the grassland, well developed places and even in the woods.

They will use their claws to dig and make burrows, but they can also live in abandoned buildings and homes. They do not normally build their own nests, but they occupy some places owned by another animal. They can also stay in an elevated place they call home like the piles of wood, brushes, attic and in the hollow part of the logs. It is just so common for skunks live under the porch, garage, buildings and others when they are in the suburbs. They can easily adjust in the city life and they have a high tolerance to humans. Though, they will use grass, leaves and others to build their home, their burrow usually has 1-3 chambers they use as rooms and they can have more than 5 entries and exit ways that are around 8 in. in diameter.

You must not let the skunks take up your home, because once they do, they will make the entire home smell. They have the capacity to release a foul smell when you provoke them. The scent or the musk will be secreted by their 2 internal glands situated nearby the tail. The glands are shown when they raise their tail. It has also a voluntary control over the glands and it can also control the direction in which the musk will be released. The glands may have around 1 tbsp. of thick oily and yellowish liquid. This is a chemical that can detect a person or a predator even at around 20 miles. It can sting the eyes and may cause blindness too.
