Many of Virginia's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Virginia's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocation services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Fairfax county animal services for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, spay & neuter programs, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, bite reports, deceased pets, lost pets, local animal complaints and to report neglected or abused animals. There is no free Springfield animal control for wildlife issues.

Springfield Wildlife Removal Tip: How To Catch A Raccoon With A Homemade Trap
To many, raccoons are a bunch of pests who are dangerous from rabieswhen approaching them and they are unwanted when they sniff around our garbage bins. Some resort to killing them to rid of their presence, but either state law our conscience prevents us from doing that. An alternative option is capturing them alive with a trap. The problem is some traps are made to kill raccoons and buying can be wasteful. So, people like to build their own trap that does not harm raccoons. To build a trap, get a tall, strong garbage can, atable, a plank of wood, and bait. Instead of the wood, some may go with two cinder blocks to create an alternative form of the trap.

First, the garbage can is the main centerpiece of the trap that encloses the raccoon when it comes in. Place it at the end of a table and make sure it is stays upright with bricks of stones (or another pair of cinder blocks). If using cinder blocks, place one of them standing on the end against the can and lay the second cinder block on the side at the bottom. Next, fill up the garbage can with water about a quarter to a third of it. Then, put the wooden piece on the table with one end over part of the garbage can, but withthe board remaining on while being easy to let it tilt over.

Raccoon bait can be most things. You can buy prepared raccoon bait or get some raw meat, a small pile of garbage, or something white because raccoons are attracted to that color. An egg or even marshmallows will do. Place the bait on the piece of wood that is dangling over the bin; on the cinder block if using this route. Build this around the eveningto prevent other animals from getting it. The tall garbage bin along with the pool of water will make it nearly impossible for them to get out. The raccoon won't be able to tip it over when it is between the table and plank of wood or cinder block. It will squeal and that's it; it can't do anything else.

The next morning, see if you caught one. There are two things you can do: either call animal control to pick it up safelyor carefully put it in a cage and drive it to a far location and release it back into the wild where no one can harm it. We recommend calling animal services because they will know how to handle the raccoon and will release it into the wild per law.

Raccoonsare unique animals. They are easy recognizable, strong, and really intelligent. They are sneaky creatures that have adapted to urban areas and crawl in alleys and sewers for garbage. It's things like this that we hate and want out of our yards, so we catch them to send away back to their natural habitat. Don't try to just shoot at them; that just does more harm to your property. Catch them and let them live with the other raccoons in the forest.
