Many of Virginia's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Virginia's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocation services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Prince William county animal services for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, spay & neuter programs, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, bite reports, deceased pets, lost pets, local animal complaints and to report neglected or abused animals. There is no free Woodbridge animal control for wildlife issues.

Woodbridge Wildlife Removal Tip: Is it Illegal To Kill A Raccoon?
People can kill a raccoon based on certain circumstances and various jurisdictions. The law will vary by state, county, or province; some will say it is illegal outright with punishment for cases of animal cruelty, others will state it legal and even almost a celebratory event. The issue on handling raccoons can lead to people taking it into their own hands, which is not the smart thing to do. There are laws regards to wild animals including raccoons as much as pests they are to us.

In much of the US and Canada, the killing raccoons is regulated to a certain extent. For example, most states permit it with a license for hunting, trapping, and killing. Hunters and taxidermists can skin them and set traps to catch them, usually no more than five a day. Those same places will also have limited months to go hunting; any raccoon killed intentionally during the off seasons are illegal. Again, laws vary, and those should look into each state's or city's laws, such as having certain firearms, whether or not hunting is permitted on Sundays, not having the hunting permit, and using certain lights when hunting at night, if permitted.

One area where it is never permitted to kill a raccoon is the city for some of the most obvious reasons. Having a firearm may be illegal and the penalty is worse if fired. The rare exception is if a trap is used in the attic or basement in a building. Caught alive or dead, contact animal control services; gloves should be worn to prevent catching any illnesses as well as properly disposing them. Raccoons are very much treated in the city like stray dogs and cats. With anyplace that is beside a designated wildlife sanctuary, there will be more responding animal departments.

Washington D.C. is one example of a city with its own specific requirements on handling raccoons because it is the capital. The city prohibits killing animals that do not need humans to survive, meaning any wild animals, such as foxes, squirrels, and deer. Raccoons and other animals can be captured alive in certain traps. The big difference law wise is that the city, or rather the District of Columbia, states that all raccoons caught must be sent to animal control, who them must take them alive at least 25 miles outside into Maryland and Virginia. There are designated parks where they can be let go distant from residential areas.

Do people like raccoons? No, even though some people do raise them. But, they are a danger if approaching them and they sniff around our yards and garbage bins a lot. However, as animals, there is a lawful purpose when it comes to ridding them, killed or caught alive. It again is based on each region or state and their respective cities and those who want to get rid of visiting critter should look into those laws first.
