There are many situations in which pigeons can become a significant nuisance, and whether it is in a domestic or commercial property, or whether it is in a large open area or a confined space, pigeons and their droppings are a significant problem to deal with. One of the methods that has been developed to deal with this kind of issue is the installation of anti-pigeon netting, and while it won't be suitable to every situation, there are many ways in which this netting can be a useful way to deal with the problem.

When Is Netting An Appropriate Option?

Netting is best used when pigeons are landing in an area where there is a drop from the top of the roof line to a recess within the roof where the pigeons are likely to build nest and where large numbers of the birds can gather. The other situation where such netting can be useful is if the pigeons are roosting in the eaves of an open building such as a warehouse or the roof of a train station.

Installation And Maintenance Of Anti-Pigeon Netting

The important thing about installing this type of netting is that it needs to be closely fitted to the walls where it is being installed, otherwise the pigeons will be able to squeeze through the gaps around the netting. Once it is in place, it is worth checking the netting periodically, as if holes do develop then it will be possible for the birds to land and roost there once again. In some cases, the bird may be able to find its way in, but won't be able to get back out of the netting again.

Using Netting Inside Open Buildings

This option is good if you have an open roof with eaves or beams where the pigeons can land and nest, and the purpose of the netting here will be to stop the pigeons from flying up to those beams. This netting will need to be fitted to cover the entire space beneath the roof, otherwise the pigeons will be able to continue to get in.

The Drawbacks To Using Anti-Pigeon Netting

Finding pigeons that are stuck behind the netting can be a problem, as you will usually need to remove the netting to be able to get these birds out, but if you carry out regular maintenance this shouldn't be a problem. The other issue is that if you are trying to install netting over the ridge of the roof, the netting can then become quite obtrusive.
